5 Things Sarah Taught Me at Her Nashville Boudoir Session
What can one boudoir session teach you? If you ask Sarah, quite a lot. She booked with me because she was turning 40 and wanted to do something just for her. She drove in from out of state, laughed through most of her session, and wrote me the kind of questionnaire answers that make me want to frame them.
So I made a list. Here are 5 things Sarah taught me, in her own words wherever I could.
1. Sometimes the reason really is that simple
Sarah lives a quiet life working from home with her two dogs, a lot of house plants and a living room she dances around in. She saw one of our Facebook ads and decided this was the year.
I booked my session because I was turning 40 and wanted to do something for me - sometimes, it really is that simple!
You do not need a big dramatic reason. A birthday is plenty.
2. Laughing is the best posing tip I have
Holly made me feel like we were just two long-time friends having a girls day. I also naturally laugh a whole lot, so her telling me to "get it together" only made me laugh harder and we had a blast overall!
For the record, I never want anyone to get it together. The giggles are where the real smiles live, and her smile in that first photo is the proof.
3. Play dress up in your own skin
It was such an incredible experience to literally play dress up and parade around in my own skin, free of judgement or wandering eyes.
That is exactly what the day is supposed to feel like. Our closet is there so you can try the thing you would never buy for yourself, and nobody is watching except me and my camera.
4. Being selfish is allowed
Being selfish (LoL)! As women, we take a lot of burden on in our daily lives and this was truly something I was doing myself. There is no shame in filling your own cup.
I hear some version of this from almost every woman who sits in my makeup chair. Sarah just said it better.
5. The best part happens after the photos
When she saw her images, Sarah said what so many of my clients say:
I think most people would say, "I can't believe that's me!" and I can absolutely relate! I think I did say that out loud..
And then she kept going.
I left the toxic partner, rebuilt my life from the ground up, leveled up in my job, purchased additional real estate - everything changed for me because I was intent on making changes, and needed to see myself differently. This did just the trick!
Sarah did all of that herself. I just got to take the pictures. Her advice for anyone on the fence:
Don't think twice - just do it! Don't let fear hold you back from the greatest gift you might give yourself.
Get the book/album. Get the canvases. Investing in yourself is one of the greatest things you can do for your mind, body, and soul.
A note from me
Sarah, thank you for the laughs and for making that drive. Happy 40th, and keep filling that cup.
Do women really travel to Nashville for a boudoir session?
All the time. Sarah drove in from another state, and she is far from the only one. A session with us is a full day for you: hair and makeup, a closet full of lingerie, and a photographer who will hype you up the whole time. Most clients tell me the drive was the easy part.
